Dasvidanya by W. L. Liberman tells the life story of Mordecai as he changes from a violent youth in Poland to an army officer fighting against the Nazis in World War II to a married man in Canada. The story of Mordecai is tragic at best. The description of the books says that this was a real person and that the events he went through are also true. With that being the case, it is truly sad all of the violence and tragedy that befell this one person. Mordecai definitely cared for his family. When his younger brother stumbles home with a knife sticking out of his shoulder, Mordecai does not waste any time going out and finding those who were responsible. He systematically finds them and beats them. He does this not only for his family, but also for the fact that he is Jewish. This becomes an even stronger element in his life once he becomes an officer in the WWII. If he were to be captured, he would be killed for being a Polish officer. His fate would have been far worse if the Nazis were to discover that he was also a Jew. Once the Army reached Germany, Mordecai meets his wife and goes to Canada with her to live a peaceful life very different from the one so far. But, violence is not something that is easily lost or forgotten.Dasvidanya is a tragic story of violence and loss. The author has taken time to create characters and a story that will be intriguing to the reader. The narrative is in need to a good edit as there are numerous issues in the early chapters that serve as a distraction to the reader. For a time I thought the author did this on purpose to show how quickly the characters were speaking, but after reading the sections several times, it became clear this was just sloppy spacing. Overall, it was good and I feel the author should be proud.

Dasvidaniya edition by WL Liberman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This was an interesting read. You get to know a very young Jewish boy and his family. Mordecai grows up knowing that as a Jew he is viewed differently and he has to fight for what he wants. As he grows up he is angry about how he and his family is treated and is angry a lot and gets into a lot of fights. He joins the military and fights the war against Hitler and the Nazi Regime. He falls in love and as a result of his dislike of what he sees during the war, he has to leave the lady he loves. He then finds a new woman that he eventually marries and they immigrated to Toronto and have an eventful life.
While this is not the type of book I would normally read I really did enjoy it and enjoyed getting to know the characters and how their lives were affected during such a volatile time.
I was looking for something very different to read in the marketplace and stumbled upon this title, Dasvidanya by W.L. Liberman. The author was someone I had never heard of before, but I thought I would give it a go anyway. The synopsis intrigued me and I wondered where the story was going to go. I also was interested to read a story with some historical backdrop, as I am quite partial to a good, historical tale every now and then. This book, Dasvidanya, is a very fine example of this kind of book, where the story is so fresh and relevant to any generation, purely because the themes are universal and the characters are easily to relate to and also because the author has done a fantastic job of crafting a tale that can be picked up ad enjoyed by virtually anyone. The story opens with quite a bang and is very well written. The story us vivid and detailed and we feel like we are really living through the main character. Worth the read.
Read it, walk with this man hand in hand. This was a good book of hard times. Deeply touching. That's all I can say.
"Dasvidanya" by W.L. Liberman is a tragic and thought-provoking read. The story follows a man named Mordecai, who it seems just can't get away from a violent and turbulent past. He's not without flaws and I thought some of the problems he had were brought on by some of his own actions but without a doubt, he leads a very hard and troubled life. He does have many good qualities though, such as his fierce love and loyalty for friends and family. The book takes us from Mordecai's earlier years, through his military career and finally to his married years. I would recommend for fans of historical fiction and action/drama genres.
When we meet Mordecai, he has taken in a young woman going through withdrawal from drugs. He tells her his life story as a way to distract from her body's struggle. Through the telling of his tale, we learn a lot about Mordecai's life. He has a quick temper, extremely loyal and good sense of humor. The characters are developed and likable. I did like Mordecai although I felt his rash temper also caused some unnecessary confrontations. I liked the quiet determination of Katya to fulfill her dreams and the easy-going manner of Simmy.
The story pace is steady with a little flip flopping between the present and the past. Being a Polish Jew was hard on Mordecai, who couldn't stand injustice. As a Polish citizen he was required to do a mandatory military stint but still experienced anti-Semitic sentiments/persecution from his fellow countrymen. Mordecai had an interesting life that was unfortunately filled with violence and tragedy. The only fault I had with the story was there were no quotation marks and some irregular spacing. It was hard to know sometimes if that was what Mordecai was thinking or saying. Overall, great read but does need a little editing changes.
