"...an action-packed, and thought-provoking science fiction tale..."

Zack Vella is a technology-obsessed bioengineer working for Titan, a robotics and artificial intelligence facility in the vertical metropolis of Brulle. Zack is one of the first to undergo Titan's voluntary limb replacement procedure. Having both his legs enhanced, Zack becomes heavily reliant on Titan's bio-blood that fuels his cyborg legs.

Eager to break free from Titan’s monopoly on bio-blood, Zack and his co-worker, Nate, set up a rudimentary lab to make their own. Zack becomes careless, letting his bio-blood supply run low, when the power goes out across the city, and Nate goes missing.

Over several days, the city’s infrastructure is attacked, and the citizens fall into panic, blaming Titan and it’s 'borgs'. The outage reveals Brulle’s deeper reliance on power – all information is stored digitally and now rendered inaccessible.

Unable to regain access to Titan, and without the information he needs to fix the lab’s broken generator, Zack runs dangerously low on bio-blood, forcing him to hatch a desperate plan.

Accompanied by an unexpected companion, Zack wanders into the heart of all that it means to be—and to not be—human.

Book Hunter A Science Fiction Short Story eBook Damien Lutz

Book Hunter is the tale of one cyborged man's struggle to repair the boot-leg equipment he needs to replanish the bio-blood that fuels his prosthetic legs before they fail. His efforts are hampered by the apparent collapse of the city's high-tech infrastructure and roving bands of cyborg-haters.

It is set in a Trans-humanist future troubled by violent, anti-cybernetic augmentation terrorists who go by the acronym HART - Humans Against Radical Trans-humanism. A key conflict is that the protagonist, Zack Vella, is a prime target for HART's wrath. A nice feature I particularly liked, is how Zack, due to due the total loos of power making the digital infornation systems unavailable, and in order to repair his bio-blood generator, is forced to go "low tech" and seek out a nearly vanished information storage system: printed books; hence the title of the piece. It's a fascinating concept, and one quite possible in the actual future we face.

Mr. Lutz has written a taunt, fast-paced thriller with a very human and likable protagonist. He gives us several twists that will take the reader by surprise and delight them. A well-written and thoroughly entertaining read, I highly recommend. Please note that this book is related to Mr. Lutz' prior release, "Android's Orchid," being apparently set in the same future, though their sequential order is unclear. Reading the previous book is not required to enjoy this one, but you will be pleased if you do.

If you want an action-packed, and thought-provoking science fiction tale, this is your book.

Book Hunter A Science Fiction Short Story eBook Damien Lutz Reviews

Book Hunter brings about a struggle between technology and humanity. It's engaging, packed with twists and turns, and presented in well-rounded short form. You connect with Zack and relate to his situation. As the tension builds, you're rooting for him, even though you understand and can relate to his antagonists, HART.

I look forward to reading more of this author's world and his future creations.
