Detective Jack Murphy is back with a vengeance! He's on the trail of a criminalmastermind. This killer is good ...very good. He has no conscience, no feelings
of remorse, and he will kill indiscriminately .. as long as there is a payday
in it for him.
Jack's friend, ATF Killian George, gets some confidential information that may
tie into Jack's case. Unbeknown to anyone, George is watching a warehouse. What
he sees are two cops in uniform hauling boxes of explosives. So intent on
watching through binoculars, a man identified only as Mr. Smith, walks up and
shoots him in the face.
Needless to say, no one is going to shoot his friend and walk away scott free.
From there there are all sorts of activities going on.
There are crooked cops, FBI Agents who aren't, a supervisor who swears that he's
going to find a way to fire Jack. An old girlfriend appears just as he's
thinking about getting his ex-wife back.
Everything comes to a boil when explosives are planted on a Casino Boat and Jack
and his team must find the killer, find the explosives and save hundreds of
lives.... and make it out alive.
This is an exciting addition to an already exhilarating action-packed series.
There is non-stop action and an explosive ending. I love the character of Jack
Murphy ... he's got a smart mouth but he's also a smart cop. The relationship
with his partner is priceless. From their banter, you know they love each other
like brothers and will always have each others backs.
It's not necessary to read these books in order, although I always recommend it.

Was a good read. Not a lot of time devoted to past Jack Murphy books, I found that to be very refreshing. No boredom skipping on to something exciting , it's all good.
Story of a rouge detective, Jack Murphy, who goes against department protocol in an attempt to find the assailant of a good friend working with a federal agency. His determination leads to several life and death struggles along the way. An interesting cast of characters is presented and each plays a role in the story. An interesting read and a true page turner.
I really like the first Jack Murphy thriller, but the theme is getting very old. It's too much like a harlequin romance--who cares about the Kate/Susan/Jack angle. I'm not even going to bother finishing this book. The last one was enough of a let down with Jack saving the day for his love interest(s) and then getting caught kissing the wrong woman. Although I enjoy seeing the personal side of main characters, I have no interest in the play by play of unrequited (or is it) love between Jack and Susan/Kate....
I made it to 33% according to my kindle and decided I'd had enough. The character of Jack Murphy had morphed from wiseass to jackass. While the character had always been kind of a jerk in the previous novels he was now a very unfunny racist. I very rarely stop reading a book. Even when a book is boring or slow I always think that maybe it will pick up eventually. Ultimately, however, you have to be able to root for the hero. Not only couldn't I root for Jack Murphy, I now found him repugnant. Rick Reed has now joined my list of authors (like John Gilstrap) whose books I will never read again. Reading has always been my escapist pleasure. I have no time for an author's hate filled politics.
What once was an interesting series is now??? The characters and stories had been believable until this book. Now we've got a made for tv script for 14 to 15 year olds with an R rating. It was fun for a while, Rick.
He is crude, impulsive and he has an attitude, but he is the best at what he does. Detective Jack Murphy only cares about finding the truth, after his good friend gets shot and is in critical condition. He only follows his own instincts and disregards rules and authority. What a guy! Still liked the story, and it kept me interested until the end. I recommend it if you like crime thriller stories.
I have become a fan of Rick Reed's Jack Murphy series. I have read them all and they just keep getting better. Jack Murphy and the other recurring characters are quite life-like and entertaining. The plots are good and Reed's style keeps one moving with interest throughout the book.
I will continue to purchase books in the Jack Murphy series as long as Rick Reed keeps pumping them out!
